Certinomis was created in May 2000 as a company jointly owned by La Poste and SAGEM, to become the first Certification Authority on the French market, in anticipation of the digitization of VAT returns initiated by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
La Poste subsequently regained full control of the company.
Starting with this “professional certificates” product line, the company has gradually expanded its range to offer its customers a full range of services enabling them to exchange information electronically and conclude an intangible transaction with complete confidence.
Today Certinomis is Docaposte’s (La Poste group) center of expertise for digital identity, time-stamping and electronic signatures. The company designs, operates and markets offers using Docapost infrastructures, and builds commercial and technical synergies with other entities. Customers benefit from the agility of a specialized team and the power of a large group.

Certification and time-stamping services perform five functions:
Authenticate: A digital certificate enables you to prove your identity when logging on to a computer application; it’s more secure and easier to use than a password.
Signing or stamping: A person can sign a document in its electronic form, just as he or she would a paper document; a computer system can mark the origin of data, by affixing the electronic equivalent of an organization’s seal.
Seal: An electronic signature or timestamp protects the integrity of a document or data by making any subsequent alteration detectable.
Date: Electronic time stamping guarantees that a document or data item existed at the date and time shown in La Poste’s electronic stamp.
Encrypt: A certificate can be used to ensure the confidentiality of a document or data by preventing unauthorized reading.
